New Zealand Rising

cattonEleanor Catton’s new novel The Luminaries, is one of those great, meaty doorstop books that come along once in a great while. At 800+ pages, the winner of this year’s Mann Booker prize is a post-modern, Victorian ghost story set in 19th-century New Zealand. Though Cattons’ book is one-of-a-kind, readers may be willingly redirectd some other standout New Zealand fiction.
