Freebie Friday

CivilRights_CD2-300x233

Request a FREE CD that includes audio clips from award-winning Civil Rights titles, just in time for The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963 on TV. It’s been 50 years since the tumultuous events surrounding America’s struggles in the 1960s, and the included interviews with Watsons author Christopher Paul Curtis and narrator LeVar Burton highlight the relevance for today’s children, teens, and family listeners. Teachers will want to use the CD to introduce the fiction titles The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963Elijah of Buxton by Curtis, The Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine, Crow by Barbara Wright, and the nonfiction award-winner We’ve Got a Job: The 1963 Birmingham Children’s March  by Cynthia Levinson. Plus, the Common Core emphasis on listening skills creates opportunities to include audiobook clips in the curriculum. Visit Listening Library’s “Commemorating the Civil Rights Movement with Award-Winning Stories” website to request your copy, or listen to all of the links and interviews as streaming audio.
