4 must-listen lists

horton hears a who

Top audiobooks named by American Library Association, from birth to adult. Last weekend, committee members debated the merits of the best audios of 2012 in Seattle. The complete results are now final & posted on the ALA website. Click the links below for the top recommended titles for school & library purchases – and for great listening by any audiobook addict. I was honored to be part of the Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults committee, and can attest to the careful & evaluative listening and the lively & professional debate on the audios that made the nominations lists. Not to mention the hours under the headphones! Personally, I listened to over 850 hours of Amazing Audiobooks submissions over the past 12 months – that’s the equivalent of  over 21 forty-hour work weeks. Or FIVE MONTHS of solid listening. Yikes! So doff your headphones in recognition to the stalwart committee members responsible for these terrific lists:

RUSA Listen List - The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of ALA serving expert readers advisory and collection development librarians, has announced its selections of adult titles for the 2013 Listen List: Outstanding Audiobook Narration juried list.

ALSC Notable Children’s Recordings List - The Association for Library Service to Children’s list of recommended exemplary audiobook, music, and storytelling recordings, for ages birth through fourteen.

YALSA Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults List - The The Young Adult Library Services Association’s list of recommended audiobooks for ages twelve through eighteen, with a special Top Ten list.

(ALSC/Booklist/YALSA) Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production - The Odyssey Award is awarded annually to the best audiobook produced for children and/or young adults, available in English in the United States, along with Honor titles.

Congratulations to all of the recognized titles – 63 marvelous titles for all ages!
