Book Trailer Thursday: How to Be Black

Baratunde Thurston’s How to Be Black was published on the first day of Black History Month, which also happens to be the day our Februrary 1st Spotlight on Black History hit shelves and screens.

Booklist reviewer Vernon Ford calls the book by Thurston, The Onion‘s director of digital communciations, “a hilarious look at the complexities of contemporary racial politics and personal identity.” Were you a fan of The Wire? Thurston was too: “When the HBO series The Wire came out, I recognized so much of what was on my TV screen from my memories of my own neighborhood. We had everything The Wire had except for universal critical acclaim and the undying love of white people who saw it.” Click here for the author’s recent interview with NPR’s Terry Gross.
