The Books on the Bus Go Round and Round

Here’s a story about a different kind of book group. If you watched the NBC Nightly News last night, you probably saw the Making a Difference segment about Miss Kookyi’s Book Club. Miss Kookyi is a Florida school bus driver who has come up with an interesting solution to the problem of kids acting up on her bus—-books. She requires the kids to have a book when they board the bus, and the kids compete to see how many books they not only read, but write a report on. It did this librarian’s heart good to see a bus full of elementary schoolers quietly engaging with books. One student told the reporter he liked Miss Kookyi’s Book Club because it made the bus more like a library.
